About Us

Diabesity Institute (EIN 45-4917504) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit dedicated to increasing access to effective science-based medical care for those suffering from or at risk for diabesity.

Obesity, type 2 diabetes, and prediabetes are rising across all demographics—regardless of race, gender, age, socioeconomic status, or educational level. The standard approach to treatment has been outdated and ineffective, but is now being replaced with more scientific, evidence-based insights. This paradigm shift has always been DI’s dream and purpose: to end suffering and conquer this devastating epidemic that impacts children and adults alike. Healthcare practitioners, patients, and the public are beginning to embrace changes that reduce the stigma of diabesity and create a more promising reality.

Please join the movement and help us make a difference!

Parents, students, scientists, medical professionals, and community leaders have joined DI’s efforts by offering their valuable time, energy, knowledge, and financial support.

Core Team

Emily Cooper, MD

Medical Director

Dr. Cooper is a Seattle-based physician board-certified in Obesity Medicine and Family Medicine, specializing in obesity, type 2 diabetes, and infertility.

Under Dr. Cooper’s leadership, DI’s educational initiatives reach healthcare professionals and the public through national medical conference presentations, local media appearances, and the podcast “Fat Science with Dr. Emily Cooper,” co-hosted with Mark Wright and Andrea Taylor. Dr. Cooper has also developed an accredited provider training course and manual through DI’s Health Professional Education Project (HPEP), delivering evidence-based diabesity education to healthcare professionals nationwide.

Through her clinic’s partnership with DI, Dr. Cooper has compiled outcome data for thousands of patients via the Cooper Center for Metabolism. This database supports the training program’s evidence base and enables scientific collaboration with researchers and healthcare providers studying metabolic health outcomes.
